NDAND 2019-2020 Elections

The Nominating Committee is pleased to submit the following candidates for NDAND 2019 ballot:

 

President-elect - Amanda Ihmels
Treasurer-elect - Frances Bloomquist

Delegate - Megan Myrdal
Nominating Committee - Barbara Erlandson

 

The NDAND election will coincide with Academy elections taking place February 1-15, 2019.

 

Each candidate has submitted a paragraph introducing themselves:

 

Candidate for President-elect Amanda Ihmels:


Amanda Ihmels is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Board Certified Oncology Nutrition who is currently employed by the Bismarck Cancer Center. She has been working in oncology for the past 8 years and received her Bachelor's degrees is dietetics and exercise science from Concordia College, in Moorhead, MN. Amanda is passionate about the field of oncology because she enjoys developing relationship with patients and their family, supporting patients through treatment and helping to improve their quality of life through nutrition. Special nutrition interests of hers include: enteral nutrition, oncology nutrition, healthy policy and inter-professional relationships. She is a past board member of the North Dakota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, served as the Public Policy Coordinator for two terms and is a current board member of the Oncology Nutrition Practice Group through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In her spare time she enjoys yoga, hiking, skiing, boating, and spending time with her two young children, her husband and
their dog.

 

Candidate for Treasurer-elect Frances Bloomquist:


Frances Bloomquist is a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Manager at Sanford Health. She graduated from University of Manitoba in Canada with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. After working for some time, her passion for food and nutrition led her back to college and a change in her career path. She received her Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Dietetics from North Dakota State University.

 

Her work experience includes banking, being a supervisor of a fast food chain, and co-owner/operator of a buffet restaurant in the capacity of Secretary-Treasurer of the company. While she was at NDSU, she served as a Student Vice-President of Phi-Kappa-Phi Honor's Society, Treasurer of Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics, and an Appointed Member of NDSU Advisory Board for Student Wellness.


The four years prior to her arrival to the United States, she volunteered to provide activities to children and adults with mental and physical disabilities for over 400 hours in Canada, and was nominated for Volunteer of the Year in the Province of Manitoba. She was involved in various volunteering programs in North Dakota such as School's Alive Energ-I-ze Program, and Great Plains Food Bank. She was recently nominated for Caregiver Award and recognized by North Dakota Long Term Care Association during the Spring Convention in 2018. Frances is passionate about serving the community and providing exceptional care to her clients and patients.


Candidate for Secretary Amanda Nack:


Amanda Nack, RDN, LRD is a Licensed Registered Dietitian at the Sanford Eating Disorders and Weight Management Center. Her background encompasses a variety of populations within the clinical acute and outpatient settings.

 

She graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and is anticipated to graduate with her Master's Degree in Nutrition Sciences from South Dakota State University in May of 2019. She served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer-Elect and Treasurer for the North Dakota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics from 2016-2018. Amanda is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.


Candidate for Delegate Megan Myrdal:


Megan Myrdal, MS, RDN is a registered dietitian nutritionist based in Fargo-Moorhead. She works for NDSU Extension - Cass County as the Family Nutrition Program Agent. She is also the co-founder of Ugly Food of the North, the Little Free Garden project, and a co-organizer of the Red River Market. She's a former adjunct instructor for NDSU and Concordia College.

 

She received her masters of science from NDSU in nutrition & exercise science, and bachelors degree from Concordia College in food nutrition/dietetics and communications. She's the former President of the North Dakota Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and North Dakota Nutrition Council.
 

Candidate for Nominating Committee Barbara Erlandson:


Barbara Erlandson, MS, RD, LRD, CDE is owns her own business providing diabetes education, medial nutrition therapy, and consultation for the community, nursing facilities, and hospitals in southeastern North Dakota. She has served on the
Board ND AND and the Dietitians in Healthcare Facilities practice group.
